1) The CD-Rom did not start automatically. How can I launch the installer?

Petit Pont 1
Open Windows Explorer, navigate to your CD ROM, double click on install.exe to start installing the software.

All other products (Petit Pont 2, Little Bridge, .. )

PC users:
Open My Computer, double click the CD-ROM drive displaying the Petit Pont 2.0 icon. If the installer does not start this time, a window will be displayed showing the files on the CD. In this case, double click on the programme called setup-windows.exe. This will launch the installer.

Mac users:
Double-click on the Petit Pont 2.0 CD icon that has appeared on your desktop and double click on setup-osx.app. Alternatively, you can navigate to the Petit Pont 2.0 CD directory by using the Finder (located on the dock).

2) I can’t get the games to play.  How do I unlock the game levels?

To access the game you need to have scored over 50% on all activities in Unit 1 and 2 for Level 1, Unit 3 and 4 for Level 2, and so on. This is a deliberate ‘carrot’ to encourage students!

When using a Classroom Edition for all versions other than Petit Pont 1, the levels can be unlocked without completing the activities by typing in the following code:

unlockgameXXXX

Where XXXX is the last 4 digits of your product key.

For Petit Pont 1 the percentage to unlock the levels can be tailored to the group of students you are working with. There are clear step by step instructions on the last two pages of the CD-Rom inlay explaining how to do this.

3) How do I control the games/walkabout activities? Nothing seems to happen.

The VR (Virtual reality) areas of our products use the 4 arrow buttons on your keyboard. The ‘up’ arrow is to walk forwards, the ‘down’ arrow to walk backwards, ‘left’ and ‘right’ to turn.

In all versions other than Petit Pont 1, you can also press and hold the second mouse button to then move the mouse and look around.

4) Will the Classroom Edition CD-Rom work on my Network system?

The software has been designed to support networked systems by operating in two possible ways:

 LMS (Learning Management System)*

All Manic Monkey products can use the LMS system, it provides teachers with a web browser managed central control of students and scores.

Students can use the LMS from any workstation connected to the internet, if they own a home edition product they can even access system from home.

Data between the LMS server and the software is sent using the HTTP protocol (port 80). If the computers on your network can view web pages they should be able to use the system. Often networks will use a proxy server on setup if the software can not obtain a connection to the internet it will prompt you for its settings.

To find out more about the LMS visit: www.manic-lms.com

Standard Operation*

In standard operation mode no central management is available, student scores are stored in each network users documents folder. If your network is setup to use roaming profiles scores should transfer between workstations. If the network does not provide students with individule logins we would recommended using the LMS option as unless a single student uses the same computer all the time you could not easily monitor student progress.

Please Note: We have tried to make the software compatible for as many network situations as possible, however due to the huge number of possible configurations we cannot guarantee the setup of your network; We cannot provide support on configuring networks themselves or using network management software and can only provide advice on how our software is designed to function.

* Excluding Petit Pont 1, for this version use the supplied Network setup software.

5) I need to install the software on a large number of computers, do I have to enter the product key on each machine?

No, the software provides the following solution to share your license details as well as program settings in a networked environment.

  1. Install the software on one machine, usually the main file server.

  2. Run the installed application as a user that has write permission for programs files folder (an administrator). The program will create a file called shared.xml in the programs xml directory. The file is created during the activation process or if this has been done when you enter and exit the options window from the menu in the main interface (the room).

  3. When a machine finds the shared.xml file on start-up it takes its original settings from it. Once you are happy with the setup (LMS or Standard Operation, proxy details, etc) on the single machine you can deliver the file to additional computers using any deployment method or by running the application from a shared network drive.

Please note: Once settings are received by the program it stores them independently, this allows you to later change an individual computers settings; say for white board use.

6) If the CD-Rom has been installed in a networked computer suite, does each student have their own score sheet?

For Petit Pont 1:

The Network setup software allows you to point the application to the student's own allocated hard disk space.

For all other products (Petit Pont 2, Little Bridge, .. )

Please see: Question 4 (Will the Classroom Edition CD-Rom work on my Network system?)

7) Are the scores on the interactive activities kept from one session to another?

Yes. If you redo an activity, the new score automatically replaces the old one. Scores are only saved when an activity is completed.
